The Campaign For Trade Union Freedom issued this statement today (September 8th) regarding the sacking of ministers dealing with the passage of the Employment Rights Bill through parliament and the future of the Bill.
“The Government has succumbed top pressure from employers and business – there is no other sensible explanation for the sacking of the entire Employment Relations Bill team in the House of Commons and the House of Lords.
The Campaign is concerned that the Government may compromise further on the House of Lords Amendments as well as bringing some of their own amendments
This will slow down the process of consultation and regulations further, in particular issues such as the consultation on single status for workers which if not fought for could become a dead letter.
It is important now to recognise that we must fight any further watering down of the Employment Rights Bill and demand an “Employment Rights Bill 2” to finish the job.
